The Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians was established in 2000 as an association dedicated to advancing the care of exotic companion mammals through peer-reviewed research and continuing education.
Since our founding, AEMV has grown to become known around the world as one of the premier resources for exotic companion mammal veterinarians. With more than 1,200 members, we have built a robust community dedicated to these animals and their welfare. Through our commitment to education, collaboration, and advocacy, AEMV continues to set the standard, empowering our members to deliver the highest quality of care to their patients.
Currently, AEMV collaborates on the Journal of Exotic Pet Medicine, a scientific publication focused on exotic animal care, and organizes an annual continuing education conference in partnership with other professional organizations specializing in exotic species.

The Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians is an organization of veterinary professionals that embraces diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. We value and seek diversity in our membership and are committed to a culture of inclusion and equity. We encourage and celebrate all approaches and points of view and expect dialogue within our membership that is respectful and encompasses diverse ideas, topics, perspectives, and issues.
Our members must hold themselves and their peers accountable to a professional code of conduct that bans and condemns racism, sexism, discrimination, violence, systemic injustice, and inequity. As fellow colleagues in this community, we ask all our members to commit to creating a profession where everyone within the community feels valued, safe and can reach their full potential regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.
AEMV would like to thank our friends at Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic in Indianapolis, Indiana. Their staff and photographer, Katie Lennox-Philibeck, are responsible for many of the amazing photos you see here on our site and on many of our clinical handouts.
