Position Announcement: Clinical Internship in Zoological Medicine

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine is offering a clinical internship in zoological medicine. This position is for a 2nd house officer in the Zoological Medicine service. The internship end-date is July 2021.

Successful completion of the internship is intended to enhance clinical experience for private practice, or to prepare for entry into residency training and/or post DVM graduate programs. The program will provide a graduate veterinarian opportunity to gain greater experience in medicine and surgery of client owned exotic animals, native wildlife, and zoo animals. The intern will participate, under supervision of the Zoological Medicine faculty (João Brandão, LMV, MS, DECZM (Avian) and Nicola Di Girolamo, DMV, MSc (EBHC), GP Cert (ExAP), PhD, DECZM (Herp)), in the instructional and clinical service programs of the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. This program is devoted primarily to participation in the Zoological Medicine service of the OSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital but out-rotations will be available depending on the interests of the intern. The house officer responsibilities will include instruction of veterinary students, sharing of emergency duties for exotic pets, wildlife and zoo animals that are presented to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH), and other duties as determined by the Department. Development of an original clinical research project is strongly encouraged. Preparation of a manuscript for publication on clinical research and/or a selected case prior to the completion of the internship is required. A DVM degree or equivalent and eligibility for faculty licensure in Oklahoma are required. Experience in private practice or a prior internship experience is preferable.

Salary will be $2250.00/month. Position will be filled as soon as an adequate candidate is selected. Starting date as soon as position is filled.
